3. COMPONENT: Movement Skills and Underlying Principles 

OBJECTIVE: Demonstrates repetition or making patterns of movement. 
 
4. Standard (Competency): Students can respond to rhythmic patterns through appropriate movements.  
 
5. Plan (Activity):  

Introduction: Today’s class is everyone will say something they are grateful for to begin the class on a fun note and to create a sense of community. 

Warm Up: (5 minutes) Students will follow the teacher for a guided stretch. Stretching must be done properly and effectively to ensure students do not get injured while dancing in class. 

Teach dance: (10-15 minutes) Student’s will learn a dance to Girls Just Wanna Have Fun that utilized repetition of basics in dance such as grapevines and pivots to create patterns. The high, medium, and low levels of space will also be used during this activity.  
 
6. Assessment: Students will be split into two groups and be observed by the teacher to assess movement quality and memory retention.  

Cool Down: (2-5 minutes) Students will join in a circle and share something they are looking forward to this weekend with their peers. This creates a sense of community, and ends the class session on a positive note.
